Happy Summer!

Summer festivities are just around the corner! After all, between Memorial Day and Labor Day is a wonderful span of fourteen weeks with sunshine, picnics, vacations, graduations, weddings, fireworks and fairs. If you do not have enough to do already, there are some offbeat holidays to kick it up a notch! I have some suggestions on how to celebrate a few of them.

If you feel like hollerin’ about the new tax laws (good or bad), the third Saturday in June (16) is the day to do it! National Hollerin’ Contest Day is the perfect opportunity to yell and scream at the top of your lungs. Gather a few friends together, eat some BBQ and scream until the neighbors join in. You will feel better!

July 13 is Embrace Your Geekness Day. Use this day to hug your laptop and organize your tax documents for the first half of the year. There is no better way to spend a Friday, than creating spreadsheets to summarize your medical expenses and charitable contributions (although you may not need to itemize this year, with the increased standard deduction). You may even want to check those withholdings today. Search on your well loved laptop for the IRS withholding calculator.

August 18 is Bad Poetry Day. Use today to write a really bad poem about your favorite tax or financial issue. Write it to express your appreciation, or irritation! Then, share it with those you love, including our office. We would love to review your talent!

To end our summer of fun, Fight Procrastination Day is Thursday, September 6. If you extended your return, now is the day to make sure you have everything ready and delivered to your tax preparer! After all, October will be here before you know it.
